Segundo o instituto norte-americano Earth Policy, em 2007 o número de bicicletas produzidas no mundo foi de 130 milhões, contra 52 milhões de automóveis. Mas a recente crise mundial no setor automobilístico aliada a um maior uso da bicicleta – que não pára de crescer mundo afora - promete mudar esse quadro.Em agosto de 2008, só a taiwanesa Giant bateu seu recorde e faturou mais de US$ 42 milhões. Se os brasileiros tivessem essa iniciativa elas iriam trazer grandes vantagens para TODOS, uma vez que além de não estar poluindo o ambiente, como os automóveis movidos a combustível, o ciclista estaria fazendo um bem pra sua própria SAÚDE. Com a adição de metais na sua estrutura e freios de tipos diferentes, o velocípede tornou-se elegante e desejado, mas como o protótipo era avançado para a época, seus aros rígidos nas ruas inglesas de paralelepípedo fizeram com que apelidassem o velocípede como “boneshaker”, que significa chacoalhador de ossos.&lt;br /&gt;Este veículo marca uma significativa mudança neste filão de mercado, sendo necessário à adição de mais tecnologias para o aperfeiçoamento, conduzindo então à bicicleta moderna.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;- Em 1880, Starley desenhou um novo modelo que utilizava corrente para transmitir o movimento à roda traseira, utilizando-se da idéia de 400 anos atrás, de Leonardo Da Vinci. Com sua morte, seu neto aperfeiçoou seu desenho e fez a Rover ( figura 2 ), bicicleta em que as duas rodas tem o mesmo tamanho e possui uma geometria segura.
